  1. Ignore certain LESS files from compilation on save

When LESS -> "Compile files on save" option is enabled, CSS file will be created for any LESS file. In practice, often we import different LESS files within single main LESS file. In that case we need compiled CSS only for main less file.

It would be good to have an option to restrict area of "Compile files on save" option. Possible solutions:
    - ignore some directories from generating CSS files
    - support a kind of ignore list to exclude some LESS files
    - ignore LESS files that include some directive inside

This feature should not affect recompilation of dependent…

    • HTML Editor CSS class hoover

It would be great if you could be shown the properties of a css class while hoovering the mouse over it. Just like you can see the value of a variable while debugging C# or Javascript. Since the IDE already provides intelisense for which css classes are available, I would have to imagine the IDE already has this data.

      • Sourcemap: setting for base url in a bundle file

We'd like to be able to use the full sources in Chrome Developer Tools, which should work using the generated source maps.

However, in the generated .map file, the location of the listed source files does not correspond to their url.

Suppose there's just one file in the bundle, to make for an easy example. Then this part of the generated .map file lists the location of the source file:

        "sources":["/Views/js/vendor/angular-1.3.14.js"]

But this is the base url of our web-app: https://localhost:44300/Websharing

        Notice the /Websharing part

This leads to Chrome trying to download

        https://localhost:44300/Views/js/vendor/angular-1.3.14.js

        when it should download

        https://localhost:44300/Websharing/Views/js/vendor/angular-1.3.14.js

        It would…

        • Make sure the WE is installed at project open.

Make sure the WE is installed at project open. Problem is that if the developer dont have it installed, then the mini versions of css and js won't be updated and that causes a lot of problems as the site will run on old files (from the last update from a colleguage)

If there could be a test performed at startup, like i can see on the language feature or silverlight feature that gives the user an aleart or wont open if the feature is not installed.

Optionally a way to test at pre or post time via commandline or…

          • Add a setting for "Code must compile"

I've just inherited some code which somehow has not been compiling for months due to failures on @import. Can we have this somehow in the build pipeline and prevent build failing to make it clear there is an issue?

Error messaging in this regard is quite poor in the latest version (2.4) with node.js failing with:

            Something went wrong reaching: http://127.0.0.1:37481/?</bla>

Could the actual error be put into the error window?

              • Dependency mapping, chunking, and a resolution "runtime," a la Webpack.

Dependency management (for both synchronous and asynchronous loading of JavaScript modules) is one of the few things keeping me in Webpack/gulp/Task Runner Explorer at this point.

                • Add Emmet submenu and its usefull actions to WebEssentials menu

I suggest you create a submenu called "Emmet" and group its actions there, including all other usefull actions like "prev edit point", "next edit point", etc.

I think other actions are not implemented yet or at least I could not find them.

So the real suggestion here is to implemente other features from Emmet and create a submenu to group them.

                  • Add setting to allow less files beginning with an underscore to be compiled

There is currently no way (that I can find) to turn this feature off. My asp.net partials begin with an underscore. I use the convention where the associated less, CSS, JavaScript etc reside in the view folder and has the same name as the view. The benefit is that all the files related to a view are in the same folder and also sorted together in solution explorer. That convention breaks because I have to remove the underscore in order to allow the less files to be compiled. Why not add the setting to the .weignore file by default so…

                              I get warnings that IE5.5 doesn't support 'text-overflow' -- well i dont give a rats ass about IE 5.5 !

could you please add options to specify the minimum browser that should be supported for validation ?

pr browser would be preferred eg:

                              Internet Exploder: 9+
                              Firefox: 30+

Opera: get out of here !

Only being able to select each browser for valdation is not enough :-(

It would be great to have comments removed from the bundled (but not minified) file. I use comments in my CSS/JS file to help me remember why it was coded that way.

Also have the "Keep Important comments" option set to false, but it still keeps them in. I've noticed this specifically with JS files.

We would like to call the css generator inside our C# code whenever we like.

                                  i.e.:
                                  var cssstring = WebEssentials.GenerateCss("pathToScss");

                                      • make it posible to specify output directory from .less file with something like /*@output: '../file.css';*/

Specifying outputDirectory from less file, will be huge benefit for flexibility. We can manage compiled files individualy by specifying outputDirectory for every .less file.

Make it possible to turn on and off each feature individually in the settings menu.

Maybe the feature is provided by another plugin for Visual Studio. Maybe the feature makes the solution unstable. Or maybe I simply don't like all of Web Essential's features.
